We,
the more than 14,000 Children of Pedro Pan" celebrate our
30th Anniversary.
Our parents facing oppression, made the ultimate sacrifice, enduring
the pain of parting,
by sending us away from our homeland to freedom.
We give thanks to Our Lord: without whose divine providence our exodus
could not have taken place.
For this noble nation, whose compassion is unlimited.
And for the American people who embraced us.
We want to remember all those, both living and deceased on both sides
of the Florida straits who were responsible for the success of Operation
Pedro Pan.
We, the children of the homes and camps: Matecumbe, Kendall, Florida
City, Opa-locka, Casa Carrion, St. Raphael, St. Joshep's Villa as a token of gratitude
solemnly pledge, in the closeness of our shared experience to actively
help todays dependent children, and those who continue to arrive
unaccompanied under the foster care of the Archdiocese of Miami, through
Catholic Community Services.
This pledge can be fulfilled by assistance to Boystown of Florida, Catholic
Home for Children and as a Memorial in the Future Childrens Village.
For it is in giving that we receive!
By this pledge we honor Msgr. Bryan O. Walsh, who will be forever in
our hearts, Father.
